Volmir Cordeiro trained in dance and theatre in Brazil and then worked in the Lia Rodrigues Companhia de Danças in the Maré neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro. After training at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine in Angers (France) under the direction of Emmanuelle Huynh, he joined Xavier Le Roy’s Rétrospective projet and also took part in Emmanuelle Huynh’s latest production. Following an initial solo, Ciel (2012), which was a direct address to the audience dealing with the loneliness of those weakened, banished or derailed by life, he sought to condense these figures of exclusion in a second solo, Inês (2013), presenting work in progress drawn from the latter project at the Laboratoires in 2013. He recently began his doctoral research at the University of Paris-8 investigating figures of marginality in dance, and will be using his presence at Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers during 2015 to develop both his theoretical and practical enquiries.
