Thing 001650 (Gypsy) concerns a controversy between comedian Faith Dane and playwright Arthur Laurents, about a burlesque scene from the 1959 musical Gypsy. The burlesque number You gotta have a Gimmick was based on Faith Dane’s audition, where she blew a bugle during a strip-tease. When Faith Dane was no longer casted for the role in the 1964 version of the musical, she attempted to claim copyrights in the dance from Arthur Laurents. She alleged that Laurents incorporated her bugle scene in the script. During the court case,  the judge hesitated whether the military striptease audition number was a work of choreographic art.
