be for the birds (variation II)
Performance / Screening by Silvia Maglioni and Graeme Thomson
programmed on the occasion of
Printemps des Laboratoires #5 / Extra Sensory Perception
A mist-enveloped forest some 20 million years old, vestige of a world that existed long before human beings came along ; the whistling melodies of a language in danger of extinction ; the powers of exhaustion of two of the living-dead in flight from debt. With this scattering of seeds of fabulation, Silvia Maglioni and Graeme Thomson glide above the circumference of their new film in progress, Common Birds, and lead us into the fragile yet ever-expanding ecosystem of the birds, flitting from Aristophanes to Hitchcock, John Cage to François-Bernard Mâche to Merzbow.
Presented as part of the Printemps des Laboratoires Extra Sensory Perception event, this performance offers a journey through the research materials produced by Silvia Maglioni and Graeme Thomson during their common infra/ctions residency project. This is an intermediate stage in the development of their next film, with its geographical/linguistic shift from a Greece both ancient and contemporary to the island of La Gomera and its whistled language, Silbo.
