Last Session – working in situ in somebody else’s body of work
Wednesday 22nd March 2017, 1 p.m.

Last Session
                –  working in situ in somebody else’s body of work

As part of the seminar proposed by Laurent Pichaud at Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers, Performer la recherche, the 5 sessions on Deborah Hay will try to show what the specific position of artist-research can offer a field of study that is typically theoretical.

A hybrid form, somewhere between an academic format and situated performance, these 5 sessions present and stage different questions stimulated by this research:

• methodological questions: how does a dancer go about archival work without any particular methodology? How to stage accounts of experiences, different perspectives, and danced passages?

• the writing question: what might the specificity of a choreographer’s writing be? And that of a translation carried out by a dancer? How might interpretation on the stage inform the task of translating?

• a choreographic question: how might we apprehend Laurent Pichaud (who tends to work off stage, in public spaces) choice to work in situ in the body of work of another artist?

• finally, a scenic question: each session will be grounded in a specific address to the spectator. Theatrical frontality, in situ work in the Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers spaces, shared spaces, circular arrangements, projections (screenings?)… will indeed be engaged with as a set of tools to present as faithfully as possible the diversity of perspectives and experiences that have developed over the last 10 years.
