The Right to Be Unhappy by Veronica Valentini

The day will begin with a presentation by Veronica Valentini who will discuss the Printemps des Laboratoires event held in Barcelona on 6 -7 May 2016, titled The Right to Be Unhappy, and produced in collaboration with BAR.

Les morts, ça fait quoi? (What do the dead do?) by Magali Molinié

« What do the dead do? What do they do to us? What do they make us do? Pursuing my inquiry on the recalcitrant dead, i.e. those that will not pass away, I will be paying particular attention to the dead denied and medicalised by psychiatry through its inability to receive and think their modes of presence ».

Artistic hallucination by Jean-François Chevrier

Jean-François Chevrier will discuss the distinction between artistic hallucination and pathological hallucination as described in his book, L’Hallucination artistique, de William Blake à Sigmar Polke (L’Arachnéen, 2012). He will also be presenting some methodological reflections on biographical forms — no doubt the question of artistic hallucination cannot be set apart from that of artistic biography.

GRANDE SALLE - Beyond the normal and the pathological, curating programmes collapsing art & medicine by Bárbara Rodríguez Muñoz

Bárbara Rodríguez Muñoz will be presenting her work at Wellcome Collection, a London-based cultural destination that through an interdisciplinary programme explores the connections between art, medicine and life in the past, present and future. Bárbara will be focusing on two current projects she has developed: ‘This is a voice’, an exhibition and performance programme looking at the complex physiology and phycology of voice production and perception; and ‘Bedlam: the asylum and beyond’, an exhibition tracing the rise and fall of the mental asylum and the current scenario that has succeeded: a market place where prescription medications coexist with community projects, networked environments, creative therapies and spiritual approaches drawn from cultures around the world.
The lecture will be given in English.

GRANDE SALLE - Screening of Yellow Movie, 2010 - film by Rossella Biscotti

Yellow Movie, was part of the installation and exhibition 168 sections of a human brain which consisted of several components - a 16mm-film projecting the color yellow with an audio work that can be heard throughout the exhibition space, a metal bench, a long steel table with large photographs of a cross-section of a human brain and framed photographs which depicts fragments taken from postcards.
The audio work is an editing of recordings of psychoanalytic sessions that took place in the Netherlands between 1987 and 1991. It is only one sentence noted in the protocol: “Seventh session. Mr. Dik de Boef, under the effects of pentothal...,” which enables the listener to categorize the recording and understand that it concerns a person undergoing treatment by the controversial psychiatrist Prof. Jan Bastiaans. From the 1980s onwards, he employed LSD as well as Pentothal, also known as the “truth drug”, in the therapy of trauma patients from the Second World War. Details and fragments of information in the recordings allow the visitor to experience a collective mnemonic scenario: here, it is not only a matter of one individual’s story and viewpoint, but of a history we all share in – the terrible events of the war and the factors that caused it from a sychoanalytical viewpoint. Here, they take shape between dreams and wakefulness, the influence of drugs and psychodrama.   

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Rossella Biscotti.
The presentation and discussion will be in English.

PETITE SALLE - Idiorhythm (and Blues) by Silvia Maglioni and Graeme Thomson

« Pour cette séance collective nous proposons une expérience d’improvisation idiorythmique où chacun pourra suivre son propre rythme, tout en étant à l’écoute des autres. À partir de fragments textuels liés au thème de la psychotropification et de matières sonores variées, nous essayerons de fabriquer un espace-temps multiple entre parole, musique, bruit et silence. Il est conseillé d’apporter un instrument musical ou n’importe quel objet qui produit du son, mais on pourra également utiliser son propre corps, les voix, la langue, les dents, les médicaments ».
