Born in 1979 in the northern suburb of Paris, Alice Diop is a documentary filmmaker. Since 2005 she has been making documentaries of creations. Her latest film, La mort de Danton portrays a young black actor from the housing development known as the Cité des 3000 in Aulnay-sous-bois, studying at the Cours Simon; for it she was awarded a documentary filmmakers bursary by the Fondation Jean Luc Lagardère; filmmaker in residence with the association Périphérie. It received the librarians’ award at the Festival du reel in Paris, the grand prize at the education film festival and a SCAM 2012 Étoile. Her latest film, La Permanence won the prize of the French competition at the Cinéma du Réel festival in 2016.
