Public Sphere by Performance (Bojana Cvejic, Ana Vujanovic)
Public Sphere by Performance is the conclusion of the research "Performance and the Public" that Ana Vujanović, Bojana Cvejić and Marta Popivoda have been carrying out over two years at les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers as part of the TkH-Walking Theory residence (Belgrade). The starting point for this research was the recurrent problem of the "public": the public sphere that was hidden throughout the 20th century, as a symptom of the crisis in representative democracy. The theoretical and political dimension of this cross-disciplinary research is rooted in the intermittent experiences of participation in the public sphere in socialist former-Yugoslavia and in the Western neo-liberal world of today. TkH offers an analysis and a debate around the idea of the "public" and its disappointments – through several models of collective, mass or individual performance, such as social drama and social choreography.
