En familles (Majida Khattari)
En familles is a project that Majida Khattari conducted in 2000 in Aubervilliers. The artist’s proposal, accepted by several people, women for the most part, was to question the current status of the family by taking a portrait of their families in their homes. Seven participated; only five agreed to continue the artistic proposal by hanging the portrait of another family in their homes, transforming their flats into a temporary exhibition hall. The whole process behind the project, meeting with the residents, the photo shoots and the vibrant discussions on the idea of the family, hospitality or the presence of the other in one’s home through images, gave rise to an exhibition shown at les Laboratoires.
