Impersonation Game on Blue by Juan Dominguez (EN)

The Impersonation Game undermines the prevalence of author’s discourse on his/her own work. After a performance of Blue, Juan Domínguez publicly interviews three audience members of his choice about the piece they just saw. They answer as though they had created the piece themselves and then turn the floor over to the general audience. In the explanations given, spectators formulate their experience of the work without verifying the author’s intentions.
In Blue, the Spanish choreographer Juan Domínguez creates a language that is completely empty of meaning but still makes sense: "My interest in linguistics came from a curiosity about the unconscious side that is active in linguistic communication.(...) Can we gain freedom to change our reality once we learn how we perceive, understand and communicate it through language?" (Juan Domínguez).
