Le Kung Fu, a play by Dieudonné Niangouna

Congolese writer and director Dieudonné Niangouna explores urgent theatre with poetic, vivid, acerbic text imbued with his personal story and the conflicts that his country has traversed. In Aubervilliers, he will return to the cinematographic experiences that marked his childhood, in particular, Kung Fu films: “I told the stories of films to my brothers, my sisters, big and little, to my cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, strangers, old people, babies and even to dogs. I told the story of some two thousand five hundred films in my life, without tiring of it. Every day of my life, between the ages of five and 16”.

With Le Kung Fu, Dieudonné Niangouna tells his film stories, in Brazzaville cinemas of the 70s and 80s or with his dad, passionate about films d'auteur. Before exploring the imaginary world of theatre and writing, Dieudonné Niangouna explored the one of cinema. Le Kung Fu is a concept, through which he explores his own passion for cinema, as well as the relationship we all have with cinema. On stage, this solo shows his own story, interspersed with extracts of movies shot with Aubervilliers inhabitants. Cult scenes, that they choose and played in the city streets and public spaces.
