From April to June 2018, L'usage du terrain will develop an effective and collaborative body of research consisting as much in an « attempt to exhaust » a site in transition as in an « experiment in preventive archeology ». Five visual artists, a writer, composer and choreographers will be asked to contribute to the research based on notions of spatial composition defined by Rémy Héritier's choreographic work : trace, relative space, witness, landmark, threshold.

L'usage du terrain is an artistic research project initiated from a specific site (the Sadi-Carnot Stadium in Pantin) and the spatial components of the choreographic writing of Rémy Héritier (mark, landmark, threshold, witness, relative space) that the choreographer associated with Léa Bosshard has wished to share with other artists who are interested in landscape, memory and space. The invited artists — Samira Ghotbi (visual artist), Julien Berberat (visual artist), Marceline Delbecq (artist and writer), Sébastien Roux (composer) and La Tierce (an association of three choreographers and dancers) — along with Rémy Héritier, will each develop their personal research with the specifics of the Sadi-Carnot Stadium and those of the notions defined by Héritier.

At the conclusion of each of these work periods, the research will be publicly shared and put into perspective in whatever form will seem to be the most judicious at the time:  performances, readings, concerts, practical workshops, exhibitions etc. These publications — as a literal means of «making public» — will be the occasion to invite a personality whose knowledge will put into perspective as much the result as the process in its entirety.

During these three months, the artist’s work will be documented via a collection protocol and will be exhibited at Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers. This system of public documentation will also be an invitation to go to the nearby Sadi-Carnot Stadium in order to meet the artists and the research being done on site.

A film made by the director Mehdi Ackermann throughout the project will constitute a living archive of L'usage du terrain.
